So I stumbled upon something that made me really excited.
As you may know, Microsoft's Bing is gearing up for a major transformation to have its name back in the Search Engine territory after it failed to catch major attention from the public and was outrun by Google Search.
I discussed how ChatGPT could affect the internet in a post here. In which I discussed what future can we expect from ChatGPT.
In the coming weeks, the search engine will be introducing the much-anticipated ChatGPT and GPT 4.0 to enhance user experience.
But when such a big change is to come, the public usually creates hype. The hype leads to some viral cases - this time, it’s a reported leak.
Screenshots of the ChatGPT in the Bing interface have been making the rounds on social media and they are creating quite a buzz!
Designer and student Owen Yin took to Twitter to share his excitement about the new interface, which he believes will replace the old search engine. He posted a screenshot of the new interface, describing it as a "composer for natural-language questions."
According to Yin, the traditional search results are still present, but with an added tab that enables the user to initiate a chat with the ChatGPT tool.
The screenshots showcase a search box with the prompt "Ask me anything..." that promises an automated response that could even ask for the user's opinion. And if the alleged screenshots of ChatGPT's responses are anything to go by, the AI appears to be well-informed, as it cites its sources.
Here are some of the purported screenshots that we got to see -
“Bing’s ChatGPT integration just appeared for me. Replaces the search bar with a composer for natural-language questions,” Yin wrote.
He added that the traditional search results are still there. But there is now an added tab, allowing the user to start a chat with the ChatGPT tool. “Didn’t do anything to find it,” Yin told the outlet. “After a couple of minutes, it stopped working ... Jaw dropped when I realized what I was looking at!”
As of now, Microsoft has not officially commented on the screenshots or confirmed their accuracy.
However, according to The Information, Microsoft's plan is to integrate OpenAI's software powering ChatGPT into Bing, in an effort to catch up with, or even surpass, Google. The tech giant invested $1 billion in OpenAI back in 2019, and recent reports suggest that it is in talks with Elon Musk's startup for a follow-up investment.
The Information reports that the initial investment included an agreement to incorporate some aspects of GPT into Bing.
That’s pretty cool. What could this mean to you?
People are quite excited after this leak!
Imagine you could have a virtual assistant at your fingertips on an existing browser. An assistant ready to answer all your questions with accuracy and speed.
That's what you'd get with ChatGPT integrated into Bing! With this cutting-edge technology, searching for information could get a whole lot more exciting. And the large domain of resources and expertise at Microsoft, OpenAI’s ChatGPT could very well grow and become more advanced.
On the one hand, ChatGPT can revolutionize your search experience by offering personalized and precise answers to your queries, leaving you with more time for other things.
Additionally, it can help increase engagement by providing you with a wealth of relevant information, making your search journey much more fulfilling.
However, every silver lining has a cloud.
The integration of ChatGPT into Bing comes with a price tag and ongoing maintenance, to ensure the model stays up-to-date and accurate. Furthermore, there's always a risk of providing incorrect or biased information, which could harm the reputation of Bing.
What do you think about how the integration of ChatGPT will affect Bing’s performance? Can it outrun google search?
Let me know in the comments!
The official statement from Microsoft is yet to be released. However, the same Information reports Microsoft will use ChatGPT in Bing likely by March, 2023.
